Local organization working to distribute 50K free books in the community

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — A family-owned business in metro Detroit is aiming to give away 50,000 free books to people in the community and teachers.

The organization, Give My Books, picks up donated books from people’s homes and gives them away through JLC Book Sale. The book sale gave away 30,000 books last year, the group said.

Crowds return for Detroit tree lighting in Campus Martius Park

Even with some trees still bearing leaves, downtown Detroit on Friday night displayed all the signs the holiday season is starting on schedule.

The 18th annual Detroit Tree Lighting kicked off the weeks leading up to Christmas with a colorful ceremony that drew tens of thousands to Campus Martius Park.

It's National Nurses Week! Kelly meets Cat Golden, a Detroit nurse, who founded Nurses Inspire Nurses in 2018 and hosted "Coffee Talk" meetups to promote self-care among nurses. When the pandemic hit, Nurses Inspire Nurses sprang to action, providing care packages, hygiene items, and food to overworked nurses.
